NAA Classification Explained

The NAA classification system works on 4 different levels, ranging from budget through to luxury, all of which are explained below. Each level is depicted next to the detailed listing of each member as follows:

Minimum Standards

Regardless of the classification level, all NAA members have to meet the minimum standard requirements. These include:

• Premises, facilities, furniture, fittings, décor and appliances in a good state of repair and neat and tidy
• Guest lounge or inroom lounge chairs
• Hot and cold running water
• Water borne sewage system in good order
• All facilites serviced daily
• Mirrors, hanging space, bedside tables, bedside lamps, dressing table/desk/vanity slab, power point, waste-paper baskets, sanitary bins, clean bedding, clean towels, unused soap and sufficient toilet rolls provided
• Bath and/or shower in bathroom
• Covered or decorative lightbulbs
• Dining area
• Basic medical supplies available.
• Staff dressed neatly and appropriately.
• All legal requirements of health, safety and Business licensing complied with
• Bedrooms lock
• Self catering units have a fridge, means of cooking, cooking equipment and utensils, crockery & cutlery and an eating area.

   Budget

In addition to the minimum standards, the following requirements form part of the "budget" classification.

• Additional bedding available on request.
• Telephone on request nearby
• At least a continental breakfast available, either as part of the tarriff or at an additional cost, except in self-catering units.

   Comfortable

In addition to all the requirements for budget accommodation, a classification of "comfortable" requires the following:

• Beds must have headboards or continental pillows
• Winter sheets OR electric blankets available in winter where the climate requires
• Fans and heaters available
• Coffee/tea facilities available
• Hairdryers on request
• 2 Point plugs available on request
• Shampoo
• Airconditioner and twin ply toilet paper in toilet
• Substantial breakfast of cereal, toast, fruit juice, tea and coffee and/or a full English breakfast
• Television (TV 1,2,3 and e-TV) in lounge or central area
• Telephone in central area
• Assistance with carrying of guest luggage on request
• Safe parking on premises
• Wake-up calls on request
• Stationery and envelopes available on request
• Laundry service on request - inhouse or outsourced

   Comfortable with Luxuries

In addition to the requirements of "comfortable" and establishment classified as "comfortable with luxuries" will meet the following requirements:

• Very good quality bedding
• Full length mirror
• Radio and/or alarm clock or a wake-up service on request
• Coffee/tea facilities with rusks/biscuits in rooms
• Set of international plugs available
• Mosquito repellent/plug in mosquito mats
• 2-point plug in room
• Private or en-suite bathrooms (no shared bathrooms)
• High quality towels
• Additional guest toiletries
• A cold breakfast buffet and a cooked breakfast (not for self-catering)
• Television with M-Net(cable) in each room (optional in game farms and retreats)
• In room drink or snack
• Swimming pool on the premises except for establishments within walking distance from sea.
• A laundry service available on request
• A cash bar or bar fridge with cool drinks, etc. available for guests or available nearby
• E-mail facilities available on request
• Fax facilities available on request
• A safe available on request
• Stamps and a posting facility available
• Organised safe parking on the premises

   Luxury

In addition to the requirements of "comfortable with luxuries" and establishment classified as "luxury" will meet the following requirements:

• All facilities to the highest standard and quality
• Desk or similar for computer use
• Air conditioning
• Hairdryer in each room
• International plug in each room
• Spacious en-suite room en-suite
• Both shower and bath
• Provision of dressing gown, tooth brush, toothpaste, shower cap, hand lotion and shoe buff
• Seperate, spacious dining room
• Breakfast menu with selection
• Television with DSTV (satellite) in each room (except for game farms and retreats)
• Telephone in room
• Safe in room
• Complete separate bar OR honesty bar in each bedroom
• Room service
• Complimentary stationery (writing paper, pen, envelope) in each room
